Artificial intelligence is both part of its process and central to the questions it raises: what makes an image feel real, how visual memory works, and what it means to create from it. Those questions become a cinematic experience shaped by people through writing, direction, cinematography, editing, sound and music. The film explores what these images reveal about us and the human perspective that gives them meaning. Les Explorateurs was initiated and produced by SpecialGuestX. Reafilma joins the project as a producer for its final stages. LOGLINE A man ventures into a world of AI-generated images, where his memories and his desire to recreate life call the boundaries of reality into question. SHORT SYNOPSIS Absorbed in creating synthetic images, a man observes lives he knows do not exist and places he has never visited. A blackout interrupts his exploration. Between memory and simulation, his search raises a question: what makes an image part of our reality? SYNOPSIS A man spends his days generating videos with artificial intelligence. He recommends trips to places he has never visited and watches, through his screen, the lives of beings he knows do not exist. Yet their gestures and routines begin to feel as familiar as the world outside. A blackout interrupts this exploration, confronting him with the distance he has created between his life and his images. Memories also need a stimulus to emerge. If a synthetic image can evoke recognition and emotion, where is the boundary between what we have lived and what we have imagined? As he searches for new images, the protagonist wonders whether he creates them at all, or simply finds them somewhere they already existed. Les Explorateurs turns this search into a reflection on memory, authorship and the human urge to reproduce everything. Generated images are part of both the story and the way the audience experiences it. LUCAS ORTIZ ESTEFANELL Lucas Ortiz Estefanell is a director and multidisciplinary creator whose work spans film, documentary and new technological forms. His previous work includes the short film La Fenêtre. In Les Explorateurs, he examines the relationship between generated images, cinematic storytelling and the audience’s experience. A FILM ABOUT AI THE STARTING POINT Not an AI film. A film about AI. Generated images are part of the story and its questions about memory, authorship and reality. Writing, direction, cinematography, editing, sound and music shape a cinematic experience through a human perspective. SEARCHING, SELECTING, DECIDING Pep Lluís Buades describes a process of searching and selecting, similar to building a photobook from archival images. Cinematography also means finding relationships between images and developing a visual point of view. For Jordi Ferrer, the story sets the limit: an image must serve what the film wants to convey, without waiting indefinitely for the next technical improvement. AN EDIT THAT RETURNS TO THE IMAGES Carlos Castelló explains that being able to request new shots from the edit creates an ongoing exchange with the director. Image-making and editing develop together: a new suggestion can change something that seemed settled. This freedom makes editing a process of shared decisions, including the decision of when to stop. ON THE FILM Les Explorateurs explores what synthetic images reveal about us. Artificial intelligence is both a tool and a subject of reflection: it allows the film to question visual memory, what we accept as real and the human perspective that gives images meaning.
